At Coega Biomass Centre, we strive to drive impact every day. By transforming invasive alien plants into high-quality biomass pellets, we provide industries with a reliable, sustainable fuel alternative while supporting biodiversity restoration in South Africa and empowering local communities.
About us
Located in Coega, Port Elizabeth, our facility has the capacity to process 180,000 tons of wet biomass per year, producing up to 120,000 tons of high-quality white wood pellets. Using invasive tree species like Eucalyptus, Acacia, and Pines, along with sawmill residues, we provide industries with wood pellets – a sustainable, low-carbon fuel alternative. As we continue and scale production, we are turning underutilized biomass into clean energy, driving both environmental and economic impact.
Our solutions
Wood pellets made from 100% sustainable biomass residues
Our biomass sourcing is diversified covering mainly waste and residues from Invasive Alien Plants (IAPs) and plantation forests. The feedstock is available for 10 years and includes the use of biomass residues from other sources:
Our pellets enhance sustainability in industrial boilers
Our pellets serve as a renewable feedstock, driving the shift to cleaner, low-carbon energy solutions for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
Our sustainable biomass supports biodiversity restoration while creating a lasting impact on local communities.
