Our impact

Coega Biomass Centre is more than a biomass pellet producer—we are an impact-driven company committed to supporting biodiversity restoration of ecosystems, reducing carbon emissions, and creating economic opportunities. By transforming alien invasive plants (AIPs) into sustainable biomass, we tackle one of South Africa’s most pressing environmental challenges while driving meaningful change for people and nature.

Restoring the Fynbos Biome

The Fynbos biome is one of the world’s richest yet most threatened biodiversity hotspots. Home to over 9,000 plant species—70% of which are endemic—its conservation is crucial for maintaining unique flora, sustaining pollinators, and preserving vital ecosystem services. However, invasive species threaten this fragile ecosystem by altering fire cycles, reducing habitat availability, and displacing native plants. Restoring the Fynbos by clearing AIPs helps safeguard its extraordinary biodiversity while supporting long-term ecological balance and climate resilience. Beyond water and biodiversity benefits, invasive species removal creates jobs and strengthens communities. By restoring ecosystems, we not only enhance water security but also drive climate action and promote sustainable livelihoods—turning an ecological challenge into an opportunity for positive change.

Aligned with global sustainability goals

Our work contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reinforcing our commitment to climate action, biodiversity restoration, clean energy, and economic resilience. Together, we can build a future where industry, nature, and communities grow stronger together.
