Coega Biomass Centre’s business model leads to a high socio-economic impact for the region.

South African Stellenbosch University and the Dutch Utrecht University investigated the local socio-economic and environmental impact of the CBC. They conclude that the factory will create over 600 jobs in harvesting, logistics and the pellet factory itself.

Many of these jobs are foreseen to be generated through new SME participation throughout the supply chain. These include local harvesting and logistic businesses.

Biomass supply chains exhibits good potential to repurpose, reskill and employ retrenched workers from the local coal and mining industry.
